Back to Blogging

Time flies. One thing led to another and before I knew it a year passed without a new blog post. I've been having trouble with my WordPress website and the blog associated with it. I've decided to return to Blogger. There is lot to love about this platform. This space will be filled with photos and history. Hope you'll enjoy it.

I love to go to photo shows and look through boxes of discarded old photos. Here's what I found on Saturday. The sitter looks so calm in this rustic studio setting.

Collection of the author

Her placid expression is in direct contrast to the threatening wildlife hovering overhead.  The young woman dressed for her tintype portrait in typical attire for the early 1880s--long overdress, ruffled skirt, beaded scarf and feathered hat.

This unusual studio backdrop suggests her portrait was taken in a region known for evergreen forests and this type of bird.  If anyone an identify the bird, post a comment to the blog. In the midst of this "outdoor" scene she sits on an upholstered chair. Mountains appear on the backdrop.
